Business: How large is the Sporting Goods industry? (topic preview)

How large is the sports industry? A couple million of dollars? A hundred million dollars? Guess again. Now, it's in the billions. And not barely in the billions either. According to statista.com, the sporting goods industry made 63 billion dollars in revenue in US dollars in the year 2014.

1) Shoes
Nike
 $16 billion came from Nike shoes alone! Shoes were originally the last thing they were worried about. Now, it is the number one thing they sell. In addition to the equipment and clothing, Nike definitely has made a huge impact on the shoes industry.

Jordans
Jordan to many people are not just shoes. In fact, they are moreso apart of the culture for many. While being sold at anywhere from $60-300 dollars, exclusive Jordans are bought, and then sold for nearly $1,000. In the past year with Nike combined, had 95.5% of the basketball shoe industry.

2) Clothing

Along with shoes, Nike has a handle with clothing, earning $11.2 billion dollars in 2014. With that being said , UnderArmor and  Adidas both made over $1.5 billion dollars in 2014. With the trend of exercising declining in the US, these companies have moved their targeting more towards adults and have made clothes more casual. Each of the companies are in the billions when it pertains to clothes.
