Sports Injuries: Hamstring Strain

For sports that involve much usage of the legs, a pulled hamstring string is an injury that has definitely plagued many athletes. Just the other day, Thunder superstar Kevin Durant suffered a hamstring strain against the Washington Wizards. Let's take a deeper look into what a hamstring strain is.

The term "hamstring" represents a group of muscles through your thigh that allow you to use your leg at the knee. What causes a hamstring strain is when one of the muscles get overworked.  This usually happens with sports that involve a lot of running.

Best Way to Treat A Hamstring
The absolute best way to treat a hamstring is by resting, icing, and elevating the leg.  While this may seem like a notoriously boring and mentally painful task, there is no way to beat rest. If the injury is not too severe, recovery time should only last two - three weeks. If it is more severe, recovery will be a couple of months.
